The sauna is sacred

Metsatiigi Resort saunas
For Estonians, the sauna has always been much more than just a warm room.
It’s a place where time slows down, your mind grows quiet, and everything feels a little simpler. A place where it doesn’t matter how busy your day has been or how much is left undone. In the sauna, all that matters is being present in the moment.
That’s the spirit of sauna culture at Metsatiigi Resort — a place to slow down, unwind, and simply be.
For us, sauna is so much more than just another service. It is part of our life, our home and our family. Our love for sauna culture began long before Metsatiigi Resort was born, and today, we are delighted to share that passion with our guests.
Smoke sauna
The smoke sauna is the soul of Metsatiigi Resort.
This sauna was built in Võrumaa in 1930 and, decades later, found a new home among the forests and ponds of Metsatiigi Resort.
It´s location was chosen with the help of Eda Veeroja, the host of Mooska Smoke Sauna and a respected guardian of Estonia’s smoke sauna heritage. Her knowledge and deep respect for sauna traditions have been an invaluable source of inspiration for us.
Our host, Margit, has also completed training in smoke sauna traditions and sauna heritage under Eda’s guidance.
Barrel sauna
Shaped like a boat, our barrel sauna invites you to enjoy a traditional sauna experience surrounded by nature. And once you’ve warmed up, what could be better than taking a refreshing dip in the pond right next to it?
The sauna comfortably accommodates 4–6 people at a time.
Wood-fired sauna
Tucked away on a small island in the pond, this cosy wood-fired sauna offers peace and privacy for a smaller group. Relax, unwind and, of course, take a refreshing dip in the pond whenever you like.
The sauna comfortably accommodates 4–6 people at a time.
Kesselaiu combo
Located on the pond island, our very own Kesselaiu, this cosy wood-fired sauna offers peace and privacy for smaller groups. Shaped like a boat, the barrel sauna invites you to enjoy the warmth of the steam while surrounded by nature.
Up to 12 guests can enjoy the different sauna experiences at the same time.
In addition to the sauna experience, there’s a cosy seating area where you can relax for a while or enjoy delicious treats from our restaurant.
Something special
We believe that the most meaningful traditions live on when they are experienced.
That’s why, in addition to a traditional sauna session, you can also join one of our guided sauna rituals led by a sauna master. Over the course of two to three hours, steam, whisking, natural body scrubs, aromatic sauna herbs, sounds and moments of silence come together to create a truly immersive experience. It’s a chance to forget everything else for a while, slow down and simply be present in the moment.
After a hot sauna, a refreshing dip in our large pond awaits, its gentle waters having delighted both us and our guests for many years. Over time, a delicate layer of natural mud has formed on the bottom, which many consider a little spa treatment created by nature itself.
In winter, when the ice holes are open, the same pond offers a completely different, yet equally unforgettable experience.
A little bit of sunshine in every day
Next to the saunas, a spacious sun terrace with canopy beds invites you to slow down and unwind. In summer, it’s the perfect place to bask in the warmth after a sauna, read a book, or simply listen to the gentle rustling of the wind through the treetops. Sometmes, you don´t need anything more.
And sometimes, something truly special happens. When the hosts decide to enjoy a sauna themselves, the warmth may already be waiting for guests who haven’t booked a sauna in advance. These are the spontaneous moments that make a place feel like home – and that is exactly what Metsatiigi Resort is first and foremost: a home that we are happy to share with our guests. We believe that true luxury is not just about beautiful surroundings or exceptional services.
Sometimes, it can be found in the crackle of a wood fire, the scent of a smoke sauna, the coolness of the pond water, and the peaceful silence that follows the final round of steam.
